Bush appoints envoy to the African Union

U.S. President George W. Bush appointed John Simon, executive vice president of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), to become the new representative of the USA to the African Union, the White House said in a statement Thursday.

Before becoming the executive vice president of OPIC, Simon served as Special Assistant to the President of the USA and senior director for relief, stabilization, development and the White House National Security Council.

If the appointment of Simon is approved by the Senate, it will replace Cindy Lou Courville, who is the current representative of the USA to the African Union.
