Country star John Rich wants fans "Raising McCain"

Country music star John Rich wants like-minded voters to join him in "Raising McCain."

The other half of the Nashville duo Big and Rich, the singer-songwriter wrote the lyrics of a rock-infused anthem covered the 5 1 / 2 years Republican presidential candidate John McCain spent as a prisoner war in Vietnam and his refusal of an early release.

"He remained strong, remained very long til they let all the other boys. Now we have a true man with an American plan, we will put it in the big White House," said Song. Its refrain: "We are all just raise McCain."

Rich plans to debut "Raising McCain," Friday the Country First concert in Panama City, Florida, with McCain in hand.

Rich, 34, is the author of best-selling songs for country artists, including Gretchen Wilson "Redneck Woman" and Faith Hill "Mississippi Girl".

In an interview, Rich said he had not been involved in politics before but got excited about the Arizona senator of the campaign. He finished the song about a month ago and sent the daughter Meghan McCain, who has sent officials on the campaign.

"I wanted to give him something he did not, a rally song, the one that really captures the spirit maverick," said Rich.

McCain said Rich's Vietnam experience motivated him to compose the song, which he planned to offer on its Web site free of charge.

"This guy is a hero," said Rich. "It was physically tortured for years and yet it out of bed every day and serves our country for decades."

Earlier this year, will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas composed a song for Obama, "Yes We Can", and appealed to celebrities like actress Scarlett Johansson and singer John Legend to perform and sing. The song became an online sensation, drawing more than 8 million hits on YouTube alone.

Rich said that although he admires and Obama was "proud as an American" that a black candidate was on the verge of winning the Democratic nomination, he disagreed with the Illinois senator on most major issues and felt that it did not have enough experience to be president.

"The whole world is looking for a way to sucker punch us," said Rich. "National security is quite on top of the list of issues. That is why I think John McCain is the guy to keep us safe. "
