BERNIE MAC in hospital: Actor and comedian Bernie Mac was hospitalized in Chicago for pneumonia, People magazine's website reported Friday.

"Mr. Mac responds well to treatment and will be published soon," said his representative in a statement. "He asked that his privacy and that of his family is respected as he is well."

Mac was diagnosed several years ago with sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in organs like the lungs or the lymph nodes. The battle with pneumonia was not considered to be linked to sarcoidosis. Mac, 50, was in remission from the disease since 2005.
