Apple unveils updates to its desktop computer line

Apple Inc. on Tuesday from the WRAP a new line of its desktop computer with a highlight on their cheaper prices in a reflection of the current economic situation.

The new line of iMac with a 24-inch product from 1499 U.S. dollars, which Apple said is priced more economically than ever before.

For the same price as its previous generation 20-inch iMac, the new flagship 24-inch iMac offers a 30-percent larger screen, twice the memory and twice the storage, the company said.

Apple has released two new models of the Mac mini, its small desktop computer. One of them is at a price of $ 599.

The Mac mini has been updated with better graphics performance and higher energy efficiency, with less than 13 watts in idle mode.

"The Mac mini is not only our best Mac, but also the world's most energy efficient desktop computer," Tim Cook, Apple's chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The company also presented updates to its high-end desktop Mac Pro. The two new models, from $ 2499, use Intel "Nehalem" Xeon processors and a next-generation system architecture, up to twice the performance of the previous generation system.

"The new Mac Pro is a significant modernization and starts at 300 dollars less than before," Philip Schiller, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, said in a statement.
