China:"Costume drama" on TV series shocks fans

One of the four greatest Chinese classical novels, a Dream of the Red Chamber, always evokes a range of human emotions - joy, pain, even surprised.

There is therefore great interest in a new TV series being shot, but also among netizens great contempt for the costumes provided by the manufacturers.
They gave me goose bumps, but not because I was impressed by them. Like other viewers, I must admit that the new images look like, well, spooky.

For one thing, the ladies are rigid wrapped in layers of silk or gauze in Pale white, dark purple or green ghastly. The most controversial part of the hair is: There are semi-circles on the verge of hair at the women's forehead.

Who with Chinese folk opera would recognize the districts of Beijing Opera and Kunqu Opera, the designer, internationally renowned Timmy Yip (Tian Ye Jing), is proud.

I could not help but wonder how a British audience would react if they saw Queen Elizabeth and her court dressed the same as ancient Greek artists. The comparison may not be perfect, but you get the point. But the performance may be a false costume can ruin everything.

Those who applaud the chosen design say, the novel itself makes no clear definition of the historical background and adds Yip added much glory to the story.

But take a look at the healthy, vivid images of the novel The former TV adaptation in 1987, and you will see why so many hate the new faces.

Since the novel first appeared in the mid-18th Century, people have always speculation about its true author, the fate of the characters in the missing chapters and the hidden ridicule in politics.

Chairman Mao Zedong, founder of New China, ordered a special copy of this novel printed in larger fonts and kept him from his pillow, filling it with red and underlined the remarks.

The public appetite is as large as ever - just a year ago, Auditions for the new TV series were broadcast live each weekend and the reviews were unprecedented, with tens of thousands of young men and women glued to their TVs.

Soon the event was a headline-Beauty Pageant; dispute erupted, should have final say - the vote netizens, the director or investor.

It came to a head one day, in which Hu Mei, a veteran director with many serious historical dramas under their belts, stormed. For months, the dust seemed to have settled, but the parties say that this was also a lucrative business to be able to fade away, so another crew, this time with Li Shaohong behind the wheel.

Yip has worked with Li in several court dramas about life and love fights. A spokesman for the crew, the leaking of costume photos "illegal" and stressed that many of the original ideas were discarded or improved.

The new TV adaptation is to be broadcast in two years' time. What is my favorite characters look like at that time? I'm not overly optimistic, but one thing is sure: There will be more surprises and fun.
